I searched the Internet for lists of the best characters from the TV show "Lost." Criteria included the characters being ranked, not just listed; covering the whole show, not just a season; and generally created by groups as much as possible, whether teams or committees or based on general public voting (like Ranker.com).

I was able to find 24 lists. I took the 24 lists and added all their content into a spreadsheet, noting the rank of every character. I averaged the rankings each one got (there were 95 that were on at least 2 lists) and divided that average by a factor of the number of lists that character was on. The lowest score meant a high ranking average on many lists. The complete spreadsheet is attached at the bottom.

The characters that were on the most lists (out of 24) were:

  • James 'Sawyer' Ford - 24 lists
  • John Locke - 24 lists
  • Desmond Hume - 23 lists
  • Benjamin Linus - 23 lists
  • Jack Shephard - 23 lists
  • Hugo 'Hurley' Reyes - 21 lists
  • Juliet Burke - 21 lists
  • Sayid Jarrah - 20 lists
  • Daniel Faraday - 19 lists
  • Sun-Hwa Kwon - 18 lists
  • Charlie Pace - 17 lists
